Now here's a first. A yacht with no cabins.
No, not a day-sailer but perhaps the most beautiful dhow we have ever seen. Owned by a family with a fabulous private game lodge, they welcome guests to both sail on their dhow and combine with a few days in the Kenyan highlands to view the spectacular game that they nurture and protect.
Tusitiri is a very traditional Arab dhow. Built to fly before the trade winds between the Arabian Gulf and East Africa, she is strong and workmanlike. "Honest" would be a fair description. Below decks are storage and changing rooms and beautifully equipped simple bathrooms. Life is conducted on deck beneath shady awnings and at night the crew roll out sumptuous linen bedding and nights are spent under a dazzling array of Indian ocean stars.
With three tenders of 31ft and 23 ft, the largest equipped for deep sea fishing and activities ashore are accessed by the other two boats and arranged by the experienced managers and shore staff.
Kikoi sarongs and towels are provided and on deck is a delightful open air hot shower. The Clarke's - second generation Kenyans - are on board to manage and cook supported by a local team of sailors and staff. Lulu is a cordon bleu chef and what she can't do with local fish and produce isn't worth eating.
This is heaven on earth and quite the most unusual experience - Go!
We've added a few tantalising images of the game lodge so don't go off half cock and miss out on the full Monty.
